WHAT KIND OF BIKE SHOULD I EXPECT TO RIDE DURING MY MTBTOUR?

KINTI CUSCO BIKING keeps a small number of well-maintained full suspension bikes, during your MTB TOUR you will ride Commencal meta v3, v4. This bike brand is made in Andorra with high quality standards and comes with rock shock fork, rock shock rear shock, Sram Eagle 1 x 11 transmission, sram and avid brakes. These are world-class bikes that will make a big difference while you ride through the varying trails of the Andean mountains.

All of our bikes are with flat or platform pedals. If you fancy to ride clipless pedals, please bring your own and we will change them for the comfort of your ride.

We also provide high quality enduro or full-face helmet, elbow pads, knee pads and gloves. However, there are riders who prefer to bring their own equipment for better comfort and perfect fit.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECTED DURING THE DIFFERENT MTB TOURS?

To strive to go beyond expectations, we have selected the best MTB trails for amazing rides and experiences.

How long is each ride approximately?

It will vary depending on the trail and tour we are riding and of course upon each individual rider.

The full day, scenic, dh, enduro, xco & road biking tours are made to ride from 3 to 4 hours per day, while the multiday and expedition MTB TOURS are made to give riders 4 to 5 hours of riding per day. The rest of the day will be spent loading and unloading bikes, getting a shuttle to the trailheads, visiting cool places, enjoying delicious meals, and having a great time with the guides and some locals.

What meals are included in my tour?

For all of our rides we offer really good snacks, water, and either a delicious homemade picnic lunch or a typical traditional lunch at one of the good restaurants around the places we ride. For our multiday and expedition MTB tours, all breakfast and some dinners are included, as detailed in the ride description. The meals we will have are as great as the trails we will ride!

What about the accommodation?

For the multiday and expedition MTB tours we use well located 3-star hotels and lodges which are very comfortable, clean, safe, and have all the essential services some might need, this hotels and lodges have spaces where we can clean, maintain and store our bikes, it also depends on the size of your team. However, if you and your team are interested in a better level of comfort, it can be coordinated in advance or you can book yourself the hotels you want to stay during the MTB adventure.

Please understand that you are traveling in foreign country with a different culture, different beliefs, different lifestyle and different food. Certain things will not be the same as it is back at home. This is the time to embrace the bizarre and to get to know the real Peru!

What kind of rules do you have for rental bikes?

We provide world class, well maintained and functioning bikes for all our full day rides: shredding Cusco up, Machupicchu multisport and rainbow MTB expedition. We please ask you to look after the bikes. If a bike gets damaged during the ride, the guide will make adequate repairs to keep riding. If it is irreparably damaged during the ride, we will give you another bike after responsibility of the damage is assumed.

Before renting and riding the bikes, we require riders to sign an equipment release form, in order to assume ride related damages to the bikes.

What happens if I bring my own bike?

If you have your own bike for the full day rides, shredding Cusco up, scenic Cusco rides and rainbow MTB expedition, you will get a $50USD discount per day.

For the rest of our multiday MTB and expedition MTB rides, all riders are expected to bring and ride their own bikes. We suggest to bring a reliable fully enduro style bike with at least 160 mm front suspension travel, dropper post, tubeless tire set up resistance to punctures.

Nowadays it is easier to travel with your bike if you pack it in the well-known bike travel luggage brands like THULE and EVOC or even if you put attention to packing your bike in the factory cardboard box it came with.

You must investigate about different airline’s biking policies to find out what works best for you. Please take a look at these links before you book your flight to Peru:

American

Avianca

British Airways

Latam

United

If for any reason you are not able to come with your bike, KINTI CUSCO BIKING is willing to rent you one of our great bikes.

What else should I bring with my bike?

KINTI CUSCO BIKING maintains a cool workshop with all the tools we need to repair and maintain our bikes in good condition. So, you will have a bike stand available to assemble and repair your bike at your lodging. However, we require riders to bring any special tools for their specific bike, a hand pump, and a multi-tool with chain breaker.

Since we will be riding in the most inhospitable places around the Andes where it is impossible to find a bike shop, and keeping in mind that the selection of replacement parts is limited even in bike shops in Cusco and Lima, we suggest each rider to bring the following list of spare items:

A spare tire

A spare tube

An extra rear derailleur with and extra hanger

Chain repair link and chain lube

Spokes

Small bottle of tubeless sealant

Tubeless patch kit

2 extra pair of brake pads

FAQS

SAFETY AND ALTITUDE

Cusco is a very beautiful city located in the Majestic Andes at 3400 m 11200 ft of elevation, surrounded by big mountains and huge glaciers over 6000 m which are full of MTB trails that we will ride through during our MTB TOURS. Some of our rides starts at elevations of up to 4400 m, so we will be riding in high altitude most of the time. For safety reasons, we always carry a first aid kit that includes an oxygen tank.

Will altitude make a difference while riding?

Yes, altitude will always make a difference even if you are walking up the stairs for the very first time in high cities such as Cusco. Most people and riders are not accustomed to riding in such high-altitude areas. Everyone is different and reacts differently, and so it all depends on how your body reacts and how fit you are. We suggest one or two days of low activity levels so that your body can acclimatize, which will allow you to enjoy every riding day thereafter.

We will also provide good advice to help you handle the altitude better.

Should I have an insurance if so what type?

Yes, each rider should have and bring information about their own travel medical insurance, which is something KINTI CUSCO BIKING requests in order to ride safe and sound.

There are many providers of insurance that covers hospitalization in case of accident while participating in adventure sports. Many providers require additional information for adventure sports such as MOUNTAIN BIKING.

So, individuals should add this to their medical coverage and it is very important to have. We suggest you take a look at this insurer (http://www.mtbinsuranceuk.com)

You should also have the travel insurance which covers unexpected situations as loss of items, stolen things, illness, delays, cancellations or other events that might change your travel plans. There are several providers of this type of insurance and we suggest to have this as well.

What is the procedure if someone suffers an injury or accident?

We understand that MOUNTAIN BIKING is something amazing to do and the cool people who practice this great sport are aware of the high risk that is involved while riding bikes in the mountains. So, we trust that each rider knows and respects his or her own limits in order to have an amazing and safe MTB riding days with friends.

As always, KINTI CUSCO BIKING’S guides are well trained and get certified every year by the Red Cross in order to respond immediately to minor or major injury while riding in the mountains. They are always well equipped with two radios for better communication, a first aid kit, and a great plan with local clinics to evacuate if necessary.

If you will be joining any of our MTB TOURS, you are expected to sign a medical release form before any ride. This document waives all claims that someone might have against KINTI CUSCO BIKING.

TRAILS SELECTION AND DIFFICULTY LEVEL

KINTI CUSCO BIKING is a local mountain bike agency that is going to offer challenging MOUNTAIN BIKE rides for experienced MTB riders. At the same time, we offer easy and enjoyable rides for friends or families who want to experience a unique and different MOUNTAIN BIKING ADVENTURE IN THE ANDES.  Cusco has the most epic MTB trails in the entire of Peru. The MTB trails we will ride are basically ancient Incan trails, very old local paths and dirt roads which are crossing the Andes through wonderful places full of great views. All these amazing trails have been adapted for MOUNTAIN BIKING and BIKING in general.

Our MTB rides were made to fit all riders’ skills and level in MOUNTAIN BIKING. We enjoy riding all types of trails all over the Peruvian Andes so we have rated our rides using a four-level scale.

Please let us know what kind of riding you are looking for. We have the best trails for you, your friends, and your family.

KNOW MORE ABOUT OUR TRAILS DIFFICULTY LEVEL

Easy:

These bike trails are basically old dirt roads that used to connect the Andes back in the old days. Since these roads go through amazing landscapes and most of them are not in use any more, we have adapted them for easy, enjoyable and safe MOUNTAIN BIKING TOURS that everybody can join and enjoy. These Andean roads are more than 2 m wide and roll down very gently from top to bottom.

Intermediate:

These MTB trails are ancient Incan trails, old local paths and manmade MTB courses scattered all around Cusco and the SacreDH Valley of the Incas. The trails we ride are the equivalent of blue trails in bike parks. All of them have loose rocks, curves, roots, drops and small ramps, sometimes muddy sections. They are around 50 cm wide.

For this intermediate level, we require our riders to know basic things about MOUNTAIN BIKING, such as shifting the gear to anticipate upcoming terrain, making the proper maneuvering changes while riding the bike, knowing how to use the brakes calmly, and understanding when to use the front or rear brake for a safe MTB RIDE.

Advanced

These MTB trails are ancient Incan trails, old local paths and manmade MTB courses scattered all around Cusco and the SacreDH Valley of the Incas. The trails are the equivalent to black trails in bike parks. All of them are technical trails which have loose rocks, tight berms, roots, woods, rock gardens, big gaps, drops and muddy sections.

These trails are around 50 cm wide.

For these advanced level trails, we require our riders to have a good knowledge about MOUNTAIN BIKING, such as: shifting the gear properly depending the terrain; knowing how and when to use the brakes calmly; understanding how to ride standing up with the pedals level; shifting body weight according the terrain to smoothen the ride for easy maneuverability of obstacles along the MTB RIDE.

Difficult

These MTB trails are ancient Incan trails, old local paths and manmade MTB courses scattered all around Cusco and the SacreDH Valley of the Incas. They are equivalent to double black trails in bike parks. All of them are very technical trails which have loose rocks, tight berms, roots, woods, big rock gardens with long staircases, big gaps, drops, lots of steep and muddy sections.

These trails range from 20 to 50 cm wide.

For these difficult level trails, we require our riders to have very good knowledge and experience about MOUNTAIN BIKING, such as: shifting the gear properly depending the terrain; knowing how and when to use the brakes calmly; especially going very fast on a new MTB Trail; knowing how to ride with pedals level and at the same time how to play with them to avoid obstacles and rocks; knowing to ride standing up and shifting body weight according the terrain to make the ride better for easily maneuvering obstacles; knowing to jump the gaps, drops and other obstacles; making bunny hops and many more skills in order to enjoy the great MTB RIDE.

If you are not sure yet about which trails do you want to ride, send us an email to kinti.biking@gmail.com or info@cuscokintibiking.com We will find the trails that fit you riding style.

Are there other trails that you do not show in you web page?

Since Cusco is considered to be the paradise of  MOUNTAIN BIKING IN PERU, there are several trails we do not offer here. We have picked up the best MTB trails for all of you MTB lovers.

It does not mean the other trails are not good, they are awesome but to get there is harder.

If you are planning to ride or add these amazing trails to your riding holiday, we are more than happy to customize an MTB TRIP that fits your skills, riding level and interest.
