Day 8: Ollantaytambo – Inka Avalanche

Another day, and what better way than to start in OLLANTAYTAMBO, the most beautiful town in the entire SACREDH VALLEY of the Incas, and what better way to explore than by MOUNTAIN BIKING through amazing MTB trails located around this great place. Today we will ride the renowned INCA AVALANCHE, which is the home of the most awaited DH race by hundreds of local and international riders who come together every year to be part of this MOUNTAIN BIKING festival. The INCA AVALANCHE begins above 4,400 m 14,520 ft, near the top of the Veronica snowcapped mountain and flows until it reaches the vicinity of MACHUPICCHU, riding down an MTB trail that has small ramps, natural wallrides, passing around shepherd communities, Incan archeological sites, and especially a lot of adrenaline. We will ride this trail twice and then return to Ollantaytambo to enjoy a hearty lunch and some local drinks.

In the afternoon, we go to another point to ride another outstanding MTB trail that begins in the archaeological site of PUMA MARCA. This trail is a mix of green terrain with rocks, and flows through an ancient Incan road that takes us through unique places passing slopes full of Incan platforms, small streams, and some Andean communities until we reach OLLANTAYTAMO. Riding through its beautiful narrow streets with water channels running next to the wall all the way down to the plaza where we can enjoy a few beers with a uniquely beautiful sunset.

The days go by and the MOUNTAIN BIKE ADVENTURES are endless, and yes, today is another great day! After a delicious breakfast, we load the bikes and our luggage in the transport and head to the heart of the ancient mountains of Ollantaytambo where Incan descendants still inhabit these majestic mountains. Once we get to the very top, we start our ride along a nice trail in the mountains that acts as the natural border between the jungle and the Andes of Peru. This one is a nice MTB trail in which we will ride around large mountains, glaciers, rivers, lakes, and where we will be able to observe large herds of llamas and alpacas along the descent. We will also ride by different small towns until we connect with another nice ENDURO trail which will take us directly to the hot springs of Lares. Day 10: Cusco - Lares MTBing - Lamay

Our adventure is almost over and today we will ride two trails that we decided to save for the end. After one hour in transport we arrive at the LARES MTBing pass located at 4460 m 14,720 ft. But we want to go higher, so we have to push our bikes until we reach the top of the Andes. With the little breath that we have left, we will conquer the summit. Here, we will be rewarded by observing the majestic mountains around us, allowing us to stop for a moment to reflect on all the adventures that we lived in the past days as they become beautiful memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. We hold our breath and all we have to do is enjoy these endless descents to the maximum. Every sacrifice has a reward and it is just beginning, we start the ride through a sandy and sloping terrain and then connect to a thousand-year-old Incan road in which we can release the breaks and enjoy the speed to its maximum level. Just hold the handlebar tight and follow me! After this epic descent we head to the heights of the mountains of LAMAY, until we reach the community of Sapacto 4,330 m 14290 ft, from where we will descend along another ancient Incan trail a little more technical with rocky areas that flows from top to bottom. At the end of these descents we will enjoy a typical lunch in the area (the guinea pig) and then return to Cusco, but not without riding HUAYLLARCITO, the trail we rode the first day of our MOUNTAIN BIKE ADVENTURE. At night we will gather to celebrate the incredible days we spent riding a bike in the Peruvian Andes.
